October

Nominee's Name: Julie Aquino
Nominee's Unit: Payroll
Criteria: Problem Solver

Customer Service Example:

Julie was incredibly helpful and QUICK in assisting with a query from a student regarding their pay. As I was unsure what the issue was, I cc'ed ERSO Payroll on the response to the student, and within less than an hour(!!), Julie had responded with additional information and had identified the problem (paper checks were issued instead of direct deposit). She indicated that she'd reach out directly to the student to resolve. It was such a quick, professional, and helpful response, and I'm so grateful that Julie stepped in quickly and said she handle it. I don't feel like I need to monitor the situation to ensure the resolution, which gives me piece of mind as well as one less thing on my desk. She even indicated that she'd further assist with any other of their payroll concerns - just a wonderful, helpful, customer-service oriented frame of mind that put me (and the student) at ease. Thank you SO much, Julie - it's an absolute pleasure to ! have you on the ERSO Payroll team!

Criteria: Above & Beyond

Customer Service Example:

Sarah is always so gracious with her time in helping answer colleague questions, set up training meetings and continuously ensuring our Hub is up to date and full of valuable and vital information! There are so many reasons why Sarah deserves recognition and appreciation but specifically she has been incredibly helpful with onboarding for one on our new RAs that started on my team. Sarah also has a new RA on her team and has been kind enough to set up various training documents, folders, files and meetings for the RA on my team. Sarah saw this as helping in not duplicating efforts which clearly demonstrates just how much being a team player and going above and beyond is apart of who Sarah is. This is one of the reasons why Sarah is an amazing colleague and supervisor! Thank YOU so much Sarah for all your hard work and valuable contributions you make to each of us RAs and ERSO at large!

Nominee's Name: Veronika Blair
Nominee's Unit: Research
Criteria: Problem Solver

Customer Service Example:

Veronika embodies so many of these attributes, but this is really for 'problem solver' and 'above & beyond' for this nomination. She has taken the lead on the new CF1 system-wide updates for ITS. It's a massive undertaking, and she has spent a LOT of time delving into the data, capturing all the various components to ensure we have all the necessary pieces, and presenting actionable items to the leadership team, CGA, and the ERSO RAs while being transparent and fielding questions from various stakeholders. Not to mention that she is doing all of this on top of managing her portfolio, team, and onboarding a new RA3. I don't know what ERSO would do without her or where she finds the time, so THANK YOU, Veronika, for all you do for ERSO and for the RA team.

May

Nominee's Name: Alice Wong
Nominee's Unit: Purchasing
Criteria: Above & Beyond

Customer Service Example:

When our BPIE (Berkeley Physics International Exchange) program coordinator came to me late last week requesting help for a field trip to Tahoe for her students on 5/20, I got very nervous. The department is relying on the program as a major source of revenue, and I really didn't want to tell her it wasn't possible, but I was extremely worried about liability issues. I brought my concerns to Alice, and she did an incredible job researching everything, considering all the angles, and called me to go over all that we'd need to do. She followed up with an email that had all the resources and answers I needed, and I'm delighted to say that the field trip is now set to happen as intended. Thanks for saving the day, Alice!

Nominee's Name: Anthony Mabanglo
Nominee's Unit: Purchasing
Criteria: Above & Beyond

Customer Service Example:

The Physics department has a program for international exchange students called BPIE, which is an extremeley important source of revenue for us. The BPIE program is taking a group of students on a field trip to a resort in Tahoe this weekend. Purchasing bus tickets and sightseeing passes for this trip was a complicated affair. Anthony jumped on my BearBuy carts immediately, and took a lot of trouble to coordinate the online purchases with a vendor contact. He had to juggle phone calls with the vendor and the BPIE coordinator, and the timing was tricky, but he got everything done, and was wonderfully courteous the entire way. We sure appreciate you, Anthony!

Nominee's Name: Ana Fuentes
Nominee's Unit: Reimbursement Services
Criteria: Problem Solver, Prompt Communication & Kind Persistence

Customer Service Example:

Dear Ana, Thank you for staying on top of the communications throughout the Uniglobe payment process. At each step, you gathered more information, pressed toward a final payment and kept me in the loop when internal communications began to veer from what was actually happening. Dealing with a new supplier that was clearly overwhelmed took patience. Your kind persistence in overcoming a sequence of issues, and documenting it, was the ticket that showed ERSO is all about solving problems. It was your documentation of the actions you had taken up to that point that allowed all the eyes that were suddenly focused on this transaction to recognize you were on top of the matter through completion! Thank you for being on the ERSO T&E Team!

Eboni was kind enough to make time in her very busy schedule to meet with Cathy, Leslie, and Sarah to discuss various scenarios of postdoc funding. It really shows her going above and beyond and being a problem solver as we all work together to understand and ensure compliance. January

Nominee's Name: TK Chen
Nominee's Unit: Other
Criteria: Anticipates Customer Needs

Customer Service Example:

TK jumped into action when there was access issues with our Intranet. We had a soft rollout of our Student Assistant Requirement application and new users to the Intranet were not able to submit a request (using a direct link to the form) because they did not have a profile in the Intranet. Our vendor leading this project implemented a fix, but it did not redirect the user back to the form after they established their profile. Users continued to have frustrations and there was concern that the integrity of our system would be questioned. Without hesitation, TK took the initiative to implement a fix within a day. This fix will allow an improved user experience and bring credibility to our system. Thank you TK for going above and beyond to anticipate our customer's needs. Well done!

Nominee's Name: Alberto Marcelo
Nominee's Unit: Human Resources
Criteria: Above & Beyond

Customer Service Example:

I should have submitted for a Thomas Bengtsson Lecturer to be hired by the ERSO deadline. Unfortunately, this one slipped through the cracks. I submitted the request the day before their service period started, and Alberto jumped on it. His instructions were very clear on what was needed from me, so Thomas was onboarded and processed promptly. This allowed enough time for Thomas to be added to the system so he could gain access to all his instructor tools, and he won't have to receive late payments. This late request was entirely my fault. I genuinely appreciate Alberto going above and beyond my making this hire happen quickly.

Nominee's Name: Krystle Bartholomew
Nominee's Unit: Human Resources
Criteria: Above & Beyond

Customer Service Example:

I should have submitted for a Libor Pospisil Lecturer to be hired by the ERSO deadline. Unfortunately, this one slipped through the cracks. I submitted the request the day before their service period started, and Krystle jumped on it. Her instructions were very clear on what was needed from me, so Libor was onboarded and processed promptly. This allowed enough time for Libor to be added to the system so he could gain access to all his instructor tools, and he won't have to receive late payments. This late request was entirely my fault. I genuinely appreciate Krystle going above and beyond my making this hire happen quickly.

Nominee's Name: Joel Spitzer
Nominee's Unit: Human Resources
Criteria: Problem Solver

Customer Service Example:

I let two lecturers slip through the cracks to be hired before the Spring 2023 semester. I contacted Joel frantically with questions about getting these two lecturers hired as soon as possible. Joel was professional, answered all my questions, and guided me on the best way to process these appointments. As a result, they were processed promptly. Thank Joel for all his help. Although this was my error in not making the request sooner, he still provided solutions to this problem, and the Lecturer was processed in time!

Nominee's Name: Robert Rainey
Nominee's Unit: Computer Support
Criteria: Anticipates Customer Needs

Customer Service Example:

Robert is a genius! All the above criteria apply. He very quickly responded to solve a pesky problem. I could not log into to my remote desktop and the system stopped me from moving away from the "error" screen altogether. As a result, I could only access very limited websites needed in my daily deadline-driven work. Through relevant questions and long experience, Robert was able to solve (as it turned out) a rather simple problem caused by operator error (me). In addition, he solved a long-standing and very annoying problem I have been wrestling with since before 2019. As a result my remote desktop environment is made MUCH MORE efficient and much easier to use. Thank you!

Nominee's Name: Annie Ren
Nominee's Unit: Research
Criteria: Above & Beyond

Customer Service Example:

Annie Ren supported Prof. Kenichi Soga's portfolio (post-award function) for 2 months when Reagan was out on his on 2nd paternity leave. Prof. Soga has a robust portfolio that needs full-time attention. On average RA receives at least 6-8 emails per day related to his portfolio. Annie has an extremely busy schedule, but still, she took time to study his portfolio and prioritized his emails over her own PIs in order to provide quick and comprehensive support. She made sure that Prof. Soga is well taken care of and took time to answer questions from various units related to his funds. Annie went way above and beyond to support her colleague during his need and we can't thank her enough. She truly embodied the ERSO mission by delivering reliable and efficient services that allowed the faculty to focus on his research work.

Nominee's Name: Miriam Kader
Nominee's Unit: Research
Criteria: Above & Beyond

Customer Service Example:

Miriam was given 3 scholarship proposals for FHWA (Dwight D. Eisenhower Transportation Fellowship) for Professor Frick's students one afternoon in December. These are not difficult, but they have very short deadlines. Miriam essentially dropped everything & learned what she could about them and prepared and submitted them that day, on the spot working long into the evening(her final text to me was 10:50pm). This is definitely going above & beyond!
